Countdown looking for new Vorderman

Channel 4 has begun its search for a replacement for 'Countdown' asterisk Carol Vorderman, who is leaving the show at the conclusion of the year.

According to reports, 47-year-old Vorderman chose to quit the show after she was asked to take a 90% pay cut and given 48 hours to decide whether to say or go.

The show's presenter Des O'Connor is also going 'Countdown', with a extra show set to home run the 2 departures.

Vorderman has been appearing on the shew for the past 25 years.

Channel 4 has aforesaid that her replacement should have "magical spell and charisma to invoke to viewing audience" and "excellent numeric and literacy skills".

Shortlisted "maths whizzes" will reportedly attend auditions with 'Countdown' producers and the new recruit will appear on screen in January adjacent year.

Helen Warner, Channel 4 Head of Daytime, said: "We realise that Carol's shoes are extremely unmanageable ones to fill, as she has done such an awful job on 'Countdown' over the past 25 years."
